Art Book Giveaway

We’re dealing with a family crisis at the moment (the kind that involves surgeons and emergency travel arrangements), so this will have to be brief.  It’s too bad, because I’d love to go on and on and ON about how much I loved your comments about math!  You made me feel so much less alone.  But I’ve got to run, so I’ll just say that the winner of last week’s ancient history homeschool book giveaway is Laura.  Congratulations, Laura!  Send me an email with your address and I’ll get those books out to you just as soon as I can.

And now for this week’s Help-I’m-Moving-To-Hawaii-And-The-Government-Won’t-Ship-All-These-Books giveaway:

artbooks

  • Altered Art; Terry Taylor
  • Urgent 2nd Class; Nick Bantock
  • Journal Revolution; Linda Woods and Karen Dinino

I bought these when the Goobs and I were all frustrated with our serious lack of drawing skills.  I thought it might be nice to try something else for a change, and so I brought these books home, hoping they’d be inspired to do something besides sit around and complain that their horses look like dogs and their dogs look like snails, but they weren’t interested.  I was okay with that, and put the books on the art shelf “just in case.”  That was several years ago.  We’re never going to use these books.  If you’d like to try them, just leave a comment telling me how you handle art at your house, would you?  My JellyMan is heading into high school, and he’d like to draw a decent looking horse by the time he graduates!  I’ll announce the winner next Saturday, February 6th, 2010.

By the way, if you were the winner of a previous giveaway and you have not received your books yet, don’t despair.  It isn’t because I don’t like you.  It’s because The Man is pathetic and can’t function properly without me.  I’ll take care of it as soon as I get back home, which should be Monday - assuming we can avoid any additional catastrophes.

  1. Oh yes, I’d like to have these. How am I handling art with my kids? Um, I’m not. Does that count? Can I still be in the contest?Ok, ok, for the first two kids I am doing nothing. I am waiting on you to teach my kids.Second two, I am following you on the art paintings and drawings from Art Projects for Kids website. I haven’t done much. :( That is all.Oh, and I am searching for art museums nearby that might have some medieval art. Sir Son is going to Medieval Times in Orlando and they have a museum of actual (really were used) torture devices, but I guess that isn’t art.

  2. Ok, let’s see, I grew up thinking I had no art ability, had to take drawing 1 and realized that I do have ability and now draw all the time. I tell my sons that is the trick to becoming a better artist….practice, practice and more practice. That being said, only my Princess draws daily, she also takes art lessons with the art teacher down the street and has talent….which she got from God and me. She wants to be an art teacher when she grows up and I’m sure she will be, then she will be able to stay home and homeschool her kids, (in about 25 years) while teaching art lessons to other homeschoolers. Now I guess i will have to decide on what we will do with those sons of mine for next years art curriculum *sigh* and then I have to enforce it. * double sigh*Drats, Melanie….I didnt’ need one more thing to have to decide for next year.

  3. They drew and I told them precisely what was wrong with their work. They improved. I did not lean on them until they were older. When they were younger [before 6th], I was not hard on them unless they were doing a real lesson. I am trying to get Holly’s high school drawing class online [the outline is here: http://donnayoung.org/art/drawing-class.htm but [!!!!!] I am up to my blommin eyeballs with other web site work! =p and it is hard to put a homemade class online because essentially, I would have to write a curriculum and I am not sure if I want to do that. [don't enter me]I hope the family crisis is resolved and in a good way.

  4. Surgeons and emergency travel plans? That doesn’t sound good. Hope everything is OK… It’s funny you should ask about art, because it so happens that I plan on starting lessons from Drawing With Children (Mona Brooks)… THIS year. And repeating that resolution is how I have handled art every year.

  5. Art? I am supposed to be doing art? They draw enough on their own. I think I am good.I really hope everything is OK with your family.

  7. I am still in the middle of my Art and Geometry unit study. After we do this unit study I want to do the picture frame studies and pulling shapes from magazine pictures. It is going on sure but slow I have purchased Drawing with Children to go through after the unit study. I’m also going to peruse Donna’s site for ideas. Melanie I will keep you and the family in prayer. Crisis that involves surgery??? Praying all is well and that I see no recipe posts on here.
