- The Man has gone back to work. We miss him, but you know. Keeping democracy safe is a full time job. (I still think he ought to be allowed to work from home.)
- I like peaches on my waffles.
Buttermilk Waffles (from the 1975 edition of Farm Journal’s Country Cookbook)
2 cups sifted flour
3 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
2 cups buttermilk
4 eggs
1 cup melted butter (yes, that’s one cup)
Sift together dry ingredients in a large bowl. In separate bowl, beat eggs until fluffy, then stir in buttermilk. Add the milk and egg mixture all at once to dry ingredients. Beat at high speed just enough to moisten dry ingredients. Stir in the butter, then bake according to your waffle iron’s instructions. These waffles are amazingly similar to The Best Pancakes He’s Ever Had, so if you don’t have a waffle iron, make the pancakes instead. They’re delicious.
- Anemone and I have been down with the flu for the past several days. We were on the mend, but then The Man brought home news that put us both back in bed.
- He has orders to Hawaii.
- Hawaii.
- Somehow I tripped over Elizabeth Esther’s Saturday Evening Blog Post, in which everyone is supposed to promote her favorite blog post from the last month. I submitted An Old Wrong Righted because it made The Man laugh. Plus I talked about my underwear. Can’t go wrong with that, right?
- I took The Goobs to the South Carolina Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum and didn’t make them write a report afterwards. That was a big deal for me.
- Hold on a minute! I’m moving to Hawaii!
- Hawaii!
- I’m supposed to be Walking Across America right now, but I’m a slacker. Don’t worry, I’ll catch up during my quest to develop a beach body by February. Ha! Hahahahahahahaha!

Hawaii. Man. Hawaii! I am in shock. I had just convinced myself you were going to get McChord. Fine, Uncle Sam. Be that way. I want to try your waffles really bad. But, Biggest Loser going on and all, I am going to have to pass. I think you get the cool mom award for not making them write reports.
I’m not sure what to comment on first: the waffles or the move. Hawaii. Yikes. I live about 60 miles inland from the Gulf of Mexico, and that’s too close to a major body of water. My only comfort is that in the opposite direction, an even larger landmass has my back. (It’s not the water that makes me nervous, but the storms big enough to be given official names that form OVER the water… wait, maybe this isn’t especially helpful.) How do you feel about the move, or are you waiting for the shock to wear off so that you can process it? Also, have you thought about how to protect your camera while getting all of those amazing beach shots? That should be a top priority. Those waffles look pretty good, though.
I’m not particularly thrilled about the move. It’s a long way from the farm, after all, and the island is so small. Plus my vast collection of handknit wool socks will go to waste. The Man grew up there, though, and it will be nice to get to know his family! And Hawaii is fairly photogenic.
Hawaii!! Can I visit you??
Hawaii? Will they even show the Stanley Cup finals out there, you know, the one in which the Penguins will win their second in a row? Congratulations on the
escapemove. The Man will at least have a better schedule, right?I’m not a big fan of moving either but what a place to move to Hawaii!! Maybe you can just use twine yarn and knit baskets, straw hats and grass skirts or something;)I look forward to your pictures!! The museum looks really neat. I’m glad you two are feeling better.
What a GREAT place to get to live for three years (Is it still three years?)! Your kids are old enough to be able to fully appreciate all that Hawaii holds. What an adventure! You can just knit socks for all the poor suckers that live where there’s snow
(HA! I am NOT one of them, thankfully. We did our cold weather tour, thankyouverymuch.)-Andrea
WOW, Hawaii!!!! That is awesome….in a fun kinda way! About those hand knit socks….send them my way, I know we would use them here! The waffles look yummy! Going to have to try those.
